1 Day Breakaway Workshops

PARENTS and COACHES: We encourage all participants to extend an invitation to parents and coaches (both if possible) to attend every session, especially the off-ice sessions. This helps the goaltender so much when returning to his or her team because it allows for consistent reinforcement and communication based on the material covered at the workshop.

INSTRUCTIONAL FORMAT: We will start each workshop with an off-ice chalk talk session that will run for 60 to 75 minutes. After a break to get changed, the on-ice session will begin. This session will last for approximately 60 minutes. Following the on-ice session and another change break, an additional 60 to 75 minute off-ice video session will finish up the workshop.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: • the single most effective method to keep the shooter from getting the advantage in a breakaway situation. • what to look for to take all guesswork out of executing the save. • how to reverse the pressure and put it all back onto the shooter. • what the shooter will do to change the timing and what you can do to adjust. • the 2 most dangerous mistakes to avoid on penalty shots. • no matter how the shooter carries the puck - on the side or out in front - you'll learn how to completely eliminate the space critical to the shooter's leverage needs. • the techniques and practice drills you'll need to put it all together enabling you to take absolute control in any breakaway situation!   PLEASE NOTE: each goalie should bring a shooter with full equipment, preferably their own age and ability level, to shoot during the on-ice session (they are welcome to sit in on all off-ice sessions as well). We want the goalies to be facing shots reflective of what they might typically see in a game. This is NOT mandatory and if you cannot bring a shooter we will double up with another attending shooter.
