POPA GOALTENDING

The ideas and materials covered in all Popa Goaltending programs were developed by Stefan Popa, Goaltending Coach for the University of Michigan (U of M) Wolverines from '85 through '93. In his 9 years working with Red Berenson and the Michigan hockey team as the goaltending coach and his subsequent 5 years working with thousands of goaltenders and hundreds of leagues and organizations, Coach Popa has turned goaltending into a true science.

Prior to starting with U of M, Coach Popa was the goaltending coach for U of M-Dearborn and the goaltending coach for '83 Compuware Junior A National Championship team as well as working with USA Hockey at their elite selection camps and national coaching seminars. At 15, Coach Popa played junior hockey as an under age midget, at 16 graduated high school and went on to attend the University of Michigan.

From an educational background of a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology from U of M and a U of M Master's degree in Kinesiology (the science of human movement) to 20 years of analyzing and teaching the principles of goaltending to thousands of goaltenders of all ages all across the country, Coach Popa has surfaced as one of the leading authorities on goaltending instruction in the nation!

Due to the extreme popularity of his instructional programs and in order to make his instruction more readily available and provide something goaltenders have never had before - feedback and encouragement from a qualified teaching professional throughout the entire season - the instructional video series "The Mechanics of Goaltending" ,"The Drill of the Week", "The Game of the Week Analysis", "The Goaltending Coordinator Program" as well as this web site were created.
