"...what do we mean by movement specific for goaltending? Let me ask you a simple question. What type of skating drills do you do most often? How many times do you actually do that type of skating in a game? Here's an example: one drill most goalies do is to skate the circles with their teams. How often does a goalie skate around the circles in a game? NEVER! Can you think of any more? I can think of at least 11 common skating drills that fit into this category. In fact, 90% of the skating drills a goalie is made to do in practices are never specifically used in a game. Wouldn't it make better sense to actually practice the movements that you might have to use while the clock is running? Now don't get me wrong, there are three benefits to skating with your team - conditioning, strength, agility. So I do want you to skate with your team when they are doing skating drills. However, you need to add to your practice routines, skating drills that will improve the movements you need to use every single time you get between the pipes. I will show you what you need to learn to move on to the next level as well as how to practice these movements, when you are on your own, both on and off the ice." - Stefan Popa
