To All Coaches, Goalies and their Parents - The reason I put this program together is simple. If a goalie will use every available instructional tool that I have made available, their improvement during the course of 12 months will be infinitely superior compared to the development seen when selecting one or two things from here or there, from this coach and that coach, and trying to figure out on their own how put it into their game and make it automatic. You are certainly welcome to pick and choose and put your own program together. Usually this is based on how much you are able to spend. And unfortunately, up to now that has been about all you could do. Doing every single thing is just too expensive. This is the second reason I put this program together - to make it affordable. It would cost well over $2000 every year to participate in everything I have available and for most goalies and their parents that is simply out of their financial reach. But by taking the most committed and dedicated goalies, who have the desire to take their game to the next level, and working with them for 12 months, the results will be tremendous. Working together for 4 or 5 days in the summer is great compared to nothing at all, but I am looking for results and 4 or 5 days a year simply isn't enough, we can do so much more. So for about the price of going to a summer camp or, for about a third of what it would cost just to rent an hour of ice once a month, we can work together all year long. The next reason this program came about is because when I would work with a goalie on the ice, we would spend alot of time talking about what had transpired in games and practices and all the other things that might be going on since the previous time we got together. I was actually surprised and didn't realize how much discussion was going on with both the goalie, the coaches and the parents - before the practice, during the practice and after practice. So I thought, what if we could keep these discussions going for the entire season? By getting and keeping everyone on the same page, the goalie's progress and development would take a big step up. Next, we have the issue where the goalie moves to a new team, maybe up to the next level, and has different coaches telling him to do different things, different team issues etc... By moving on with the goalie from year to year I can work with them on how to handle this situation because it is something that they will have to deal with for their entire career - new team, new teammates, new coaches, no coaching - and the sooner they can learn how to take their present situation and turn it into useful feedback and reinforcement, the sooner their performances will improve. Also, a quick mention about my approach to goaltending . I am not going to teach you how to be the best "Shooter Tutor" in the world! They are hundreds of coaches and places you can go to learn how to stop a puck. And actually, by the time most goalies are looking at something like this program, they are already good at stopping the puck. But you see, at any level, winning the most games by being the best goalie is not only about stopping the puck. In reality, it's about control. Stopping the puck is part of it but it is not the "be all and end all" of the goalie's responsibilities. The more you act like a "Shooter Tutor" the more you have to rely on your defense. And who in ther right mind really wants to do that intentionally? Then you are only as good as the D in front of you. I want you to control the game! Ask any hockey player, goalie or skater or ask any coach, "can a goalie control the game?". Most of them, if not all, will say yes. The question is how do you do it? Ask them that and you will see a blank look come across their face. Then the coach might try to tell you, "well, you have to do a good job with rebounds, so maybe you should work more on your butterfly". That's it!?! That's all they can tell you!?! If nothing else about reading this message stays with you, I want you to understand and remember the following: It's not about one save technique vs another save technique, it's about which technique should you use in which situation to give you the best possible control and why! This is where my expertise comes in and that is what I will teach you. When you accomplish this, you will control the play on a regular basis and wind up being head and shoulders above your competition. For the younger goalies and their parents - the sooner we can get the goalie on a solid foundation based on the fundamentals of control, the better off they will be down the road. By establishing good habits now, they won't have to waste so much time trying to undo and re-learn things as they move up into the more competitive levels of play. This is why I accept goalies as you as 9 in this program. I am also using this age as the lower limit because my 9 year old uses the computer with ease. For the older goalies - the higher the level of competition, the more pressure will be put on you to perform. The more pressure you are under, the easier it is to make mistakes and the more often it will happen - especially those flukey, easy goals. By having developed a solid foundation based on the fundamentals of control, you will be able to rely on something other than your D and you won't be a slave to the situation, hoping to make the save. You will be able to rely on yourself. The more confidence you have in your play, the easier it will be to handle the pressure. Handling this pressure with confidence will lead to more success as well as more starts, more wins, and more accollades in the high pressure, high profile games. Please feel free to contact me so we can decide if this program is right for you. The easiest way to do that would be to send an email to me at PopaDIRECT@popagoaltending.com. I look forward to working together! All the Best - |
